    IRS Abatement request for an Individual
    California -

    I want to ask the IRS for an Abatement on a Late Filing Penalty.

    Is there a FORM for an Abatement?
    WHAT do I include in my letter?

    I am not aware of any form other than one IRS provides if your late filing was a result of incorrect advice from IRS.

    You would have to write a letter, list the reasons for the late filing, ask for an abatement. You could also make a personal appointment, take your documentation and ask in person.

    I wouldn't have very high hopes. To the best of my knowledge, IRS is not warm and wonderful.
