    Error c0000221 bad image checksum
The subject message appears when trying to start my computer then it shuts down and restarts continually.
I have tried safe mode and numerous other mode features however I get the same result.
My restore disk does the same thing and I would like to know how can I get the system to start up in order to change the fat file to remedy this situation.
I can not access the reboot in dos either
System is an e-machine T2542 with XP as the os.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try booting to the XP CD and then running the Repair option? There is clearly some corrupted file preventing Windows from loading. If your Restore disks do an image restore (return to factory settings) and they don't work, contact E-Machines for a replacement set.

    Many thanks Scott,
My better 1/2 solved the problem - she sent me out to get her a complete new system including a 17" flat monitor - hopefully this will resolve the problem till the next 1 arises.
Again many thanks for the info and I will keep the old equip and try what you suggested
