Power line to neighbor's well is draped over our fence
    Hi,

My neighbors have the power for their well draped over our common fence. It goes about 200 yards. The fence is wood posts with galvanized steel, and we have livestock on our side. I have asked them to change this but they have not. Now it is pressing because they have obtained a horse. We aren't even turning our horse out in the pasture now because we are concerned that the two of them might mess with this power line that is between them as they "get aquainted" over the fence.

    How dangerous is this?

Well, it might be time for a civil suit.

If GFCI protected, then damage would probably be a severed cord. Not sure if horses like to chew cord.

I it was raining out and the horse chomped on the cord. Their could be burns. Possibly death. The electricity has to go across the heart muscle and likely it would.

Choices seem to be under ground cable or conduit along the fence.

I think it's right for you to be concerned.

Find out who is the Fire Marshal for your area and ask them... a 200 yard 120/208V. shoulder high, service drop doesn't sound safe (or efficient) to me, and there must be a code about it in your area.

I agree with the above. If not on a risidual currant device protected circuit you could be one day looking at a dead horse. Even a live wired fence. Nasty.

Look inside the main distribution panel in your home... circuit breakers, whatever... On the inside of the panel door or somewhere on the box, is the sticker of whomever inspected the electrical installation of your home... It's likely the same office inspected your neighbor... That office is whom you should talk to.
