After using the "balloon" method, I have determined that I have a leak in my shower drain. How do I replace my drain and is it possible to do so without damaging my shower pan?

You shouldn't have to replace the drain. You have a ruptured drain lip seal,(see image) Loosen the nut and clear out the old putty. Replace the seal with a small rope of plumbers putty or Silicon Jel. Now let's address what caused your leak in the first place.
You didn't say but I'd bet the farm that you have a plastic or fiberglass manufactured shower base that gives a bit when you step into it. This flexing can, over time, cause the seal under the lip to separate and leak. Your shower floor should have been bedded in at the time of installation.
However, it's not too late to do it at the same time you reseal the drain.
Take mortar or cement and puddle it under the shower floor, especially around the drain. Do not step in the shower until it sets up and cures. Good luck, Tom

What kind of shower pan do you have.. Concrete/tile or plastic/acrylic..?

How exactly did you determine that the ballon test showed a leak at the drain and not from the pan.. Just curious here..
