Knife Wielding Mama update

Ok you all saw my knife wielding mama post right? Well turns out my mama has been prescribed cymbalta by the doctor because he noticed that she may have some signs of depression and instructed her to take it PRONTO... she has been taking it for about a week now and has clmed down immensely (yahhh) today she is sewing a new outfit for my cabbage patch doll I have had since I was five. She asked me to put my doll in her room so she could take some measurements down. She also asked me to return the knives I hid from her. Well I did something kind of bad lol I rubberbanded the knives in the dolls hands to look like it was holding the knives... I know I'm terrible lol but I couldn't resist just thought id share :D

While she is doing good reassure her that you love this side of her.
Also make sure she keeps up on her meds.
Maybe you could get her to go to family counseling.
Tell her you want to go because you want to grow closer as a family.
Don't know how she will take your little joke, hopefully not in a bad way!

She told me that I was trying to be funny and don't know how lol

Ask her to please learn to love and appreciate you for you

That was really a terrible thing to do to her. I am sure she feels terrible inside, whether she has said so or not, but by doing this you are doing nothing more than purposefully trying to hurt her.

By doing what you did, you humiliated her beyond belief. I honestly cannot believe you are 26 and doing something so terrible to your mother, who, for all intents and purposes is mentally ill.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

It was a joke nothing more not meant to hurt anyone and in fact my mom did find it funny she wasn't mad at all. It was a joke she took it as a joke. You act like I taped a note to the knife that said "youre a terrible mom" it was a harmless joke if she was upset by it trust me she would gladly let me know.

Hun, living with a depressed father all my life, and specializing in the mental health field (taking a deserved break), currently in labor & delivery, what you did was terrible.

I understand that it was a joke, but sometimes jokes can be painful and sometimes people who are depressed tend to laugh at the joke, but it builds inside to a monumental amount.

Even though she may have thought it was funny, subconsciously it hurts. People with her "disorder" don't always let the pain show, but rather it builds on the inside.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe at one point you professed an education in the psych field. If you had, you would have known this is wrong.

You say she wasn't mad at all, but do you know her gut feeling? Do you think it may have humiliated her to the point that she laughed but cried inside?

You didn't have to tape a note to the knife as you had already taped the knives together.

When someone goes from the behavior your mom was displaying to coping.
The last thing you want to do is trigger her with jokes that she could go off on.
You need to use this opportunity as a fresh start for BOTH of you and encourage her.
Tell her you want to make things work and work on her accepting you but with your good qualities not ones that can set her off.

What you did to your mother was totally uncalled for. Reminding her of an action of hers that I am sure she is embarrassed and ashamed of was totally immature and of a antoganistic nature on your part. If you supposedly went to college and studied psychology then I am totally baffled how you could possibly have passed any courses. You would not have been taught in college to be antagonistic to a person who is mentally ill goading them on to perform more irrational acts of violence. You should be ashamed of yourself. Again it was joke and she's taking the cymbalta because of her diabetes and hypertension. He said that it is common for patients who have diabetes and hypertension to be a little depressed because they are sick and can't do the things they use to do when they weren't sick. I think I know my mother a little better than all of you. I thought about what all of said and asked her about (a heart to heart talk) and SHE said she was not hurt and knew I wasn't being mean. It was a joke that you guys are blowing wayyyyy out of proportion wow. Before she got sick we would joke around like that all the time.

Btw the way twinkledooter you are being rude.You think what I did was uncalled for FINE you are entitled to your opinon BUT there is no need to throw out insults at me. I have you know I did study psychology and passed with flying colors. I know my mother and her personality. She thought it was funny and knew it wasn't anything malicious.

The rest of you are entitled to your own opinon about it but it was a harmless joke nothing horrible and mean. My mother told me after I asked her about it half the darn day about it she said she wasn't mad and knew it was a joke.

Now I am done discussing this I'm not going to argue with you guys about how awful I am and how I hurt my mothers feeling even though I didn't so I refuse to argue with any of you about this anymore Im done.

I hope you don't practice this kind of psychology on any patients. You would wind up losing your license. I still find it hard to believe you are in your 20s. You act more like you are in your teens.

You seem to forget that you posted this and said "couldn't resist just thought id share". Didn't know that "sharing" with us negated us from giving our opinions. Once you post something here you are basically asking us for our opinions/answers. Or didn't you read how this site works? Maybe you should rethink "sharing" your "cutsie" stories with us in the future as we don't think they are so "cutsie" or funny. And psychology class teaches differently than what you have demonstrated.
