    Medical Insurance Lapses
I have had insurance coverage without any lapses, or so I thought. My new insurance company is saying pre-existing condition. I started a new job and switched health insurance. My employer says that the effective date of my health insurance is the 1st of the month following 30 days of continuous service. I started December 17th, so that would be February 1st, right? My old insurance company says that they cancelled me as of January 1st. I thought that I had to have at least a 3 month lapse in coverage for a new insurance company to say 'pre-existing' on a claim. Does anyone know? Thank you very much!

Don't know, but you could contact the insurance commissioner's office in your state for a quick review of your concerns. Don't believe this to be a federal question.

It's 63 days without coverage that will allow the pre existing to kick in.
Your coverage is through your employer? Fully insured group insurance plans do not have pre ex clauses.
