By duel switch do you mean two switches, like one at one door and one at another?

What does the switch do now? Recessed lights of fan light?
If it is a stacked switch(one over the other in 1 device), then the hot goes to the side that has a common connection between the top and bottom, be sure tab is not broke off joining the 2, Then the other side of the switch has 2 screws. One to the lights and the other to the fan. Whites all tie together and not to switch, the green/bare will connect between all boxes and lights grounds.
I have a dual switch where one operates the dishwasher and the other one operates the garbage disposal. The switch has two brass screws on one side and two black screws on the other side. There are two white and two black wires coming out of the electrical box. What is the correct placement of the wires on the switch?
