I have a kitten that is very young and it has dark green discharge coming out of its eyes I would like to know if there is something that is safe on newborn kittens?

Hi there! Let me first begin by saying that I strongly suggest that you go to a vet and have your kitten checked out. However, if you are like me, and cannot afford vet bills. (And ask around, there are major vet offices affiliated with pet stores that a cheaper than you'd think), than try the next best thing. I usually go to Valley Vet Supply, or Dr's Foster and Smith, or Jeffers pet supply online, and order a tube of Terrymycin. It runs in the neighborhood of $10.00. It is a tiny tube, so be careful in the amount you use, and you dab a little into each eye, day and night until the eyes get better.

There are other antibiotic ointments out there, and those names escape me. But I know from past experience in Dogs, Cats, and even Reptiles that I have, that this does work and is cheap. Again though, the best thing is to take it to a vet. It's better if they determine what's causing the problem, so that you can prevent it from happening again.

What do I do about a 4-5 week kitten whose eyes are crusty and occasionally opens them?
The othere cat has a bulging eye and it popped on Tuesday--bulging again.
I tried eye wash, should I try Normal Saline or try to get Cortisporin? Is the human dose the same?

I'd suggest that you "Google" Cortisporin. Also "Google" NFZ puffer, and terramycin. I use those two ingredients for kitten eye problems. I don't know about the other one, but I imagine that a "sporin" might not be good for eye use. The best thing you can do is go to a vet though, because I am concerned about the "popping" issue. Let us know what you found!

Terramycin is ONLY used in cats for one SPECIFIC type of eye infection. It is very ineffective for the more common type of infection associated with feline upper respiratory infection.

I truly appreciate that some owner's cannot afford veterinary care, but giving the wrong medicine for the wrong ailment can make things worse which when you finally give up and DO go to a vet will just make your bill higher.

Would you treat your child with over the counter antibiotics without knowing what you were treating? It's dangerous.
