How much does A.o smith 1/4 motor cost?
I just got charged 438.94 dollars for a.O Smith F48K92A01 1/4 HP motor. Volts 208-230. I looked up online. I could find one that's around 65 dollars and someone is selling the same model on eBay for 29.99! I FEEL so FURIOUS! I was expecting 200% mark ups... but if I can get it for 80 dollars retails, they must be able to get it for 50 dollars and that is a 800% mark up!! I hope I was looking up the wrong motor... otherwise I am going to be calling the heating and air conditioning company real soon... could someone please help me? Pleeease!

The first site I Googled - Replacement Motors matching AO SMITH Number F48K92A01 has a replacement for $95.33. Ultimately the "cost" is whatever the buyer is willing to pay. And, there is certain value in having the equipment back in operation sooner. However, for a noncommercial application, your cost seems a bit steep to me.

Were you charged $438 dollars for the motor, or for the service call, the troubleshooting, the installation, and the motor itself? It's not the parts, it's the knowledge of what to do with them that you pay for. And could you have done the installation yourself?

Was it a 1075 or a 825? That's what you pay for knowing the difference of what's needed and how to instal it. I have seen post where home owner spent a lot more changing parts trying to figure it out only to call a service tech later to replace a $10 capacitor. I spent a $120 to fill my service van up with gas today(third time this week), I call that highway robbery.

I wish you would explain exactly what the charges were, If you have an itemized list it would held to decide if you got cheated or not.
