    Kitchen sink is plugged
I have a kitchen sink that is plugged; water starts to back up and then carrys over to the garbage diposal side. I have run the garbage disposal but it only moves the water back to the other side of the sink. Any ideas?

Put a bucket under the trap and open that connection. After you drain the trap then rod the lateral line running into the wall. You'll hit a 90 elbow about 8" into the wall so use a 1/4" snake. That should do it.

    Hi Dhergert:

First thing I try in these cases is to cover the garbage disposal with a cover or wet towel... then I use a plunger on the opposite sink and plunge away.

The PULL is more important than the push. The push part seals around the drain, the PULL pulls waste back and may get this flowing again.

Most important is to put about 2 inches or so of water into both sinks before starting. Then cover the disposal side with wet rag, then plunge vigorously!

If that doesn't work reall well then next step is to clear that drain as Ballenger b1 has suggested! Good luck...
