    Puppy Mills
    Why is it legal for people to own puppy mills.they should be shut down and the owners should be punished for animal abuse.. animals should not be locked up in cages for years and then be killed once they can't breed anymore.. I am 14 years old and I have a strong feeling about animals and they should get the right to run free and be with loving families that would love them.. if you feel strongly about this please write me back..

    I totally agree. But... puppy mills are sometimes mobile and as soon as they shut down, they start up somewhere else. Oprah put money up front to try and abolish puppy mills, but there is such a big area to cover it is totally impossible. There is also a rescue mission whereby vets go to puppy mills to rescue adult females who will be eliminated, but for the most part they are cancerous, and not much can be done for them. Euthenasia is the only option for adult females from puppy mills.

    Puppy mills should be outlawed, and the people who run them should be tossed in
    Jail, and throw away the key. People who treat animals like this have no respect for
    Life, they should not be allowed to roam free on the streets, that's my opinion. Unfortunately, even though many people are in the fight to stop puppy mills, it's a growing problem, with no end in site.

    I think it's great that a young person such as yourself is this passionate about the welfare of animals. There are things you can do, petitions you can sign, sites you can visit (be forewarned, they are often very graphic and disturbing, I myself cannot watch them) and
    Ways that you can get involved to help put an end to this suffering.

    Hopefully, one day, all animals will live with loving caring people, but I'm not optimistic that it will be in my lifetime.

    Love the pets you have, that's the best thing you can do. :)

    If the general public would stop buying from pet stores and the puppy mills that supply them, the irresponsible breeders would go out of business.
    You may not think you can do much, but just making people aware of what a puppy mill is will help a lot. Education is the most powerful tool we have. Potential puppy buyers need to realize that buying a puppy from one of these places is not so much a "rescue" as a message to the breeders that there is a market out there for their product.

    I remember watching Oprah and she was talking about puppy mills. I was very very upset that people where allowed to do this to animals. I honestly think that no matter what we do... there's always going to be a puppy mill or two. It made me cry watching all those cruel things they did to animals.

    I agree 100%. Most pet stores that sell "purebred" dogs, get their puppy's from puppy mill, where there's a market there will be a product, so stop buying the product.

    I never buy pet's from pet stores, rescue's only, that's the way to go. :)

    And here's a picture of one of my rescues;

    That's Jasper, he's almost 7 and we've had him since he was a beaten, near death, terrified little 4 month old puppy, now he's a chubby, well loved, well balanced dog.

    Good for you, Alten! I won't even go in a store that sells animals--for one thing I won't support their business, and then there's the thing about probably having to be bailed out of jail...

    I'd bail you out, if I wasn't in the cell with you. :)

    I also have 4 rabbits, 3 of which are rescues. They are such lovable animals, every one of them. :)
