    Computer Clock
Why my computer changes the hour every time I have a problem with the computer or it is shut down?

    1. Make sure the time zone is set correctly
I've had this cause me to "lose" 3 hours every so often
    2. Make sure you have the all the latest Windows updates
There have been several changes for Daylight Savings Time
    3. Check your Daylight Savings Time selection
      Make sure it is checked

You can accomplish items 1 & 3 by right-clicking the clock and selecting "Adjust Date/Time". Click the Time Zone tab, and make sure the zone is correct as well as the DST checkbox.

Run Windows Update to get the latest patches for item 2.

    Good luck,

But it shouldn't be changing times every time the computer is shut down. The battery occurred to me, but it seems like that would be causing more problems than just the clock not keeping the time. (It's been so many years since I've changed a battery, I don't have a clue what all that might do.)

How old is the computer. I really do think the internal battery is the culprit here.

Actually, I'm embarrassed that I overlooked mentioning the battery. While it seems odd that only the hour would change, anything is possible if the clock/CMOS battery is going. You'll have to open the computer case and look for a coin-type battery. It'll be something like a CR2016 and the size of a nickel (most likely anyway).

    Good luck,

Pffft! Computers can be so difficult to figure out... it's just whatever happens to pop in your head at the time. There's an amazing array of questions around here I decide to hold off on, and then am glad cause when other answers come in, I realize how stupid mine was. :p In fact, I admit that most of the time on this forum, I'm always afraid to hit the Submit button.
