    Implantation or just irregularity?
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for awhile now with no success. I tend to have very irregular periods and have found it difficult to track my cycle. Anyway, for a couple of days now I have had some pink to dark colored, kind of stringy spotting accompanied by mild cramps and pretty strong mood swings. I am very anxious andhave been wishing so much that I am pregnant, but I have been testing for the last week and have only gotten negative results. I suppose that I just have to keep waiting until I get my period or just keep testing every few days, I just wish I knew more. I am 29 years old and trying for my first. Any comments or suggestions ladies? Thanks

Make an appointment witth your doctor and ask them to do a blood. The hCG level will double every 48 - 72 hours. There are two common types of hCG BLOOD tests. A qualitative hCG test detects if hCG is present in the blood. A quantitative hCG test (or beta hCG) measures the amount of hCG actually present in the blood. Your doctor will be able to tell if in fact you are pregnant. Due to your irregular cycles you could have ovulated later than you expected wait another week and test again if you can not wait another week schedule an appointment with your doctor...

I need to ask you a question as you are actively trying to get pregnant. Have you been charting? Checking your temps? And tracking your cycle? You can have a better chance if you get more intuned with your body being that you have irregular cycles, you will began to be able to detect when you ovulate. Also, make an appointment with your doctor to see if you are in fact ovulating properly.

I was really tracking everything for most of this year and last. But I have had a really stressful couple a months. I have been trying to get all my financing in order for a new home and just got married (we have been together for 7 years though). I have also had pretty abnormal liver function tests - which could be possibly causing fertility issues I suppose. So, needless to say there are many recent contributing factors. I guess that this last week really I really did "feel" like it was happening finally. Plus, my empoyer does not offer health bebefite so, medical costs can get pretty pricey. Thanks again for listening

You could try a planned parenthood, pregnancy center, or your local health department for testing as well. With irregular cycles, it does make it a bit more tricky to determine what may be going on. Without going in for a blood test, you will have to just wait and see. I wouldn't bother with testing more than once a week. Since you are trying to get pregnant, certainly do all that you can to insure a healthy pregnancy... folic acid, eating well, avoiding things you know are not healthy, etc... this will cover you if you are pregnant, or when you do become pregnant, and not realizing it right away.
If you do go to the doctor's, and if it turns out that you are not pregnant, you can also ask about ways to try and get your cycles more regular.
