The best is a whole house charcoal filter. I had one in my home in Florida and it was wonderful. The big fiberglass tank was outside and all the water was filtered through it. I had a backflush system added and once a month I would "fluff" up the charcoal inside the filter. I would change out the charcoal every 2 1/2 to 3 years. If you live up north you would have to place the filter in a heated environment such as a basement or a garage so it does not freeze and crack.
