Can anyone let me know how to force a defrost of a Maytag as I keep losing airflow into my fresh food compartment.

You can temporarily defrost your unit using a hairdryer. You will, however, have to replace the defrost timer or switch to keep the unit working properly. See if the unit is still under warranty by calling Maytag before you pay a repairdude. It just might be covered by the warranty.
