I was wondering, could someone who is not a cop or a security guard, would they beable to carry a pair of handcuffs and a baton? Second question, can a convicted felon from a different state become a bounty hunter in Mississippi.

Depending on the state, maybe. I know that in Florida and mostly every other state a baton is considered a concealed weapon and you must have a license to carry it, it considered the same as a knife, gun, pepper spray etc...Quote:

I think they can. It's kind of hard to conceal a baton, though, I've been accused of concealing one. So I don't think it could be considered a concealed weapon. I don't think handcuffs are illegal, either. Google Mississippi bounty hunter laws, but I'll bet there's nothing stopping a felon.
I don't know. I usually agree with Judy. First time for everything.

Normally almost anyone can be a bail enforcement agent, there is not really any bounty hunters, a bail enforcement agent works for a bails bondmen, there are a lot of laws on them.
Normally most will carry a pepper spray and cuffs, batons will depend on state concelled carrry weapons laws, and I could not find your states law on batons, I found the concealed weapon law but it specicially named firearms.

Also remember you are not going to work free lance you have to be employed or contracted with a bailsbondmen to work as a "bounty hunter" so best bet, go to a bail office and ask them what the requirements are there

Bounty hunters have to be bonded and that's where I see a problem.
Most be a NY thing, here in most of the southern cities beyond getting hired there is little requirement further down south

It is illegal to carry a baton because of conceilment but cuffs are not according to most states they recommend a handcuff carriers permit but it is not required.
Or, more precisely, it can be, depending on the jurisdiction, illegal to carry a concealed baton.
But it is not prohibited in Mississippi:
