    PCI Multi-meadia Device Problems(NO SOUND?)
Hi can someone help me, I'm having problems w/ my sound. One day I woke up and my sound didn't work?
I went to "control panel", "system", then to the"sound" w/ the "+" next to it and clicked it then it had"wave device for voice modem" and I updated it and that was just fine. BUT when I went to "other Devices" w/ the "+" I clicked it and then it had"PCI Multi Meadia Device" with a Yellow Question mark next to It? AND ALSO I don't have my sound icon on my Taskbar thing at the bottom of the screen!! And the speakers are fine and work perfect on other computers and stuff. BUT NOT this one?? CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?? PLEASE! :( Thank You! :)

    Sincerely,
    Tyler

You can attempt to reinstall the driver for the device. After determining the exact device brand and model, visit your computer manufacturer's web site or that of the device manufacturer to download the correct driver. Posting this info would have led to a more precise answer.

Given that it failed suddenly, it's possible that the device may have failed and that is the reason the existing driver isn't loading. The existing driver files could have also become corrupted.

So I have a Gateway Microsoft computer w/ windows 98 would I go to microsofts website or gateway?
And Thank You! For your help! Ummmmmmm would the download be free?
Because it should right?? because every computer HAS to come with sound and SHOULD have sound.
Well Thank You! And I would be delighted if you answer the question for me.
    Thank You!

    Sincerely,
    Tyler
p.s. I have already reinstalled the device but there's no device to be found? That's why its "PCI" with a yellow question mark next to it.. right?so would I have to go download one on the manufactures website? And how would I determine the exact device brand too?

Go into device mgr and see if any yellow marks be audio controller
Start, settings, control panel, system, hardware tab device mgr

Look for yellow marks next to devices and right click then choose uninstall
Close windows and the restart machine

On startup windows will find and attempt o install a driver for the audio device it finds and should install, once restarted check your sound to see if works or not

If not, go back to device mgr and right click on audio device and choose update driver and let it search for recommended driver - see if this helps

If not, download unknown device identifier, it will search your PC for devices that have conflict and offer you sites to download drivers

Go to Gateway's site, select "Drivers and Downloads" in the Support section on the home page, enter your serial number (on a sticker on computer case somewhere), and you'll be given a list of all components for your system and links to gateway specific drivers and documentation.
