On move in, the existing clothes dryer outlet did not have matching prongs to my dryer.

I replaced outlet with prongs to match dryer. This is an electric dryer

White to silver connection, bare to green ground, other 2 wires to the two gold connections.

Dryer runs but does not heat. :confused:

What you did was COMPLETELY wrong.

WHY did you replace the receptacle? Simply to match the dryer?
Do you know what amperage this circuit is?
Do you know if it is 120v?. 240v?. 120/240V?
Do you own a tester?

Doing this type of work is FAR more than knowing how to turn a screw driver!

You replaced a 120v receptacle with a 120/240v dryer receptacle.
Now you do not have the correct voltage to run the dryer and the circuit is undersized for the receptacle. That and I bet you put two wires under one screw which is also wrong.

I suggest you call a pro in to fix this and to run you a new PROPER and safe dryer circuit before someone gets hurt.

First, do you own this home or are you renting it? What was the mismatch between cord and receptacle?

There is a circuit breaker that protects the conductors to the receptacle, what is the amperage on the circuit breaker. Also, what is the amperage required by your dryer.

What is the approximate distance between the main panel box and the dryer?

If you HAD a Gas Dryer, Receptacle likely would have been 120 Volts, If it use to be the 240 Volt/30 Amp Recepticle/ 3 Wire, and you upgraded to 240 Volt/30 Amp 4 wire
(4 #10's/ 2 hots a neutral and a ground), And if Hots, neutral, and ground test good. And at the dryer the strap removed to allow separate Neutral and ground.
Then it may be a thermal sensor on dryer metal duct(inside dryer)
