Should I get a reply to a thank you note?
I sent by email a thank you note after a recent interview and I have not had any reaction from the persons who interviewed me. Not even a thank you for your interest in our organization reply. Is this a bad sign? Or is it normal not to receive a reply to a thank you note?

How recent are you talking? I'm not sure what the norm is where you live, but where I am, you'd usually get a letter by post or a phonecall saying whether your interview was successful or not and that's it. I'd say most companies probably wouldn't bother sending you a reply as they would (hopefully) be sending something out or be phoning you shortly regarding the interview anyway. I'ts the worst feeling having to wait for things like this aye, but if you haven't heard within say, 3 weeks, I'd phone them and enquire about the position again stating that you had an interview so WHAT THE FRUIT IS GOING ON?. no no you can think that, but not out loud! Lol

    Hope you get it! :)

Thanks for your answer. Actually, I sent the thank you note by email expecting the people who interviewed me to say something about it, but no reaction. They told me in the interview that the final decision will be made in two months but at least I wanted to sense their reaction to my thank you letter. That's why I was wondering if not getting a reaction to a thank you note is the normal practice or a bad sign?

I think it's normal practice. 2 months! Well obviously I'm just an impatient person to say 3 weeks haha!

Thanks but the issue here is not how long they will take to make the final decision but rather whether is normal not to receive a reply to a thank you note that I sent by email after the interview.

Like I said, I think it's normal practice. As in NOT replying.

They are probably interviewing many people and are to busy to reply to your email. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Good luck, hope you get the job. :)

Most companies do not reply at all, others reply to those not chosen at the time someone is chosen, it is much more common not to get any notice or thank you at all.

We used to interview hundreds of people per year. Some would write thank yous (maybe 5 to 10%) although I think college seniors were probably 50% because they were taught to do it. I don't believe it ever affected whether one person or another was selected. In some cases the person would provide info that they had forgotten to bring up at the interview, or something discussed at the interview reminded them of a skill they had that they just realized was pertinent. Those comments may have had some impact. But as a state agency we were required to treat everyone the same. If we had responded to one, we would had to send the same letter to all applicants which would have been a waste of time and postage.
I think the thank you probably doesn't hurt and could help if not too syrupy. Some students would enclose a picture of themselves which a lot of people thought was hokey.
But when you interview 50 people in one week and you are looking through a one foot tall stack of paper trying to decipher your notes, the picture brings back a lot more about the applicant than the notes (good or bad possibly). We started taking pictures of all our applicants because of that (with their permission-but nobody ever refused).
I know this is too long. I think you should not expect a reply to a thank you, but not receiving it is not necessarily a bad omen. They probably told you at the interview that you would be hearing one way or the other, and they left it at that. I hope that the next correspondence you get from them is an offer for the job!
