    Old debt, new marriage
My fiancé is being told by his friends and co-workers that any bad debt or credit I have (before we met) will be attached to his credit. We live in Pennsylvania. I didn't think this was true and think he's just trying to find ways to hold off on the wedding. Advice anyone??

    A) Your debt is still your debt alone even after you are married.
    B) If he wants to get married debt-free, I can think of no better wedding gift you can give him than to honor that wish.

Get out of debt, both of you. Then take the plunge headlong and have nothing from the past dragging at your heels. Ah... the freedom.

I don't think your bad credit will necessarily be 'attached' to his credit... but if you default on loans/credit cards and the like, they will come after him to try to collect and fast as they come after you... not only him, but his family as well as long as they can find a way to link you all together...

With the way divorce rates are skyrocketing right now, I can't blame your fiancée for second guessing every aspect of married life... I agree with JBeau above with the get out of debt first, married second advice!

    Good luck!
