Leaving water off but hot water heater on
We have a part time home and only there on weekends about twice a month. One thing I was considering was to turn off the main water valve to the house when we aren't there just in case we have a leak or burst pipe when we aren't there.

Question: I have a traditional gas hot water heater. If I put the heater to vacation mode and turn off the water supply to the home, is there any danger of damage to the heater or any drawbacks? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As long as nobody uses the water there should be no problem. Just don't forget you turned the water off.

Turning off the house stop is the best, and cheapest, insurance you will ever get when you leave. I can find no problems with simply setting the thermostat on vacation. Have a great one! Tom
