Convert 3 wire to 4 wire for dryer
How do I place 4 wires on the 3 hook-up back of dryer?

I was told told white on left, then black and green in middle and red on the right connect. The breaker keeps tripping as soon as I plug it in.

That sounds completely wrong! Black is a hot wire and green is a ground.
That would trip the breaker every time.

See this link for an answer.
I'm linking to it instead of copy/paste because it is not my answer, so I can't take credit.

    Good luck,
