Tax : L1B Visa Across the Year
    Hi All,

I was in the US on L1B visa from 15 July 06 to 10 March 07. I was on a intra-company payroll transfer. I paid my income tax online before leaving US with the help of one friend using TURBOTAX.

Now as I have learnt that taxes are 1-Jan to 31-Dec so I want to know that do I need to pay the taxes for my stay during January 2007 to March 2007? Or does it have a minimum slab like india where certain bracket is for min income which is tax free?

    Regards
    Ur friend

For 2007, you are not resident so you can not file resident tax return. You exemption for 2007 is $3400. If your income exceeds $3400, you must file tax return.

    Hi MukatA,

Thanks a lot for your answer, yes I believe it was more than $3400. But I am here in India since 1 year. How can I pay now.

You can file tax return from India and give your India address.
