Boyfriend added me on title as Joint Tenant
In 2003, my boyfried (of almost 8 years) added me to title of his house as a joint tenant. In early 2006, he filled out a gift tax return (on a 2003 form) to account for putting me on title in 2003. In late 2006 we signed a domestic partnership agreement in the state of CA. In late 2007 we spilt up and filed for a dissolution of domestic partnership. He is now claiming that since there is no longer any appreciation of the house (from the time I was added to now), I don't get to receive anything. It is my understanding that I owned 50% of the house before we became domestic partners and therefore the house should be split 50/50 between us now that our relationship is over. Can anyone help me understand what I am entitled to? We also did the same transaction for a condo we own. He holds the mortgage on the house and I hold the mortgage on the condo. We did the gift of both properties before our domestic partnership. Thanks.
