I'm looking for a job in the accounting field and I came across one that fits all my experience, but I've not heard of the title before. Does anyone know what a "ASP Case Analyst" is or what it stands for?

Never heard of it. But what I can tell you from tons of my own job hunting is that two things are very common. One, having a job title that really has no meaning at all. And more importantly, having a job description that really has nothing to do with the job because whoever listed it had no clue what they were talking about.

I just did a Google on it. Everything I'm finding is related to programming/computer stuff. (Like ASP.NET of Microsoft's.) Come to think of it, I've seen URL's ending in .asp, but don't know what it means. One hit mentioned Dreamweaver, which I believe is some type of database use on a web site.

Does the job really sound like it's related to accounting? Of course, it could be you'd be using some specific software on the job, as opposed to having to know anything about the software.

I suppose I should ask if you're in the U.S. It might mean something somewhere else.

Thanks for your help and the warnings. I haven't had to look for a job in 15 years and back then you didn't do it on the computer so much.

This job sounds a bit like accounts payable to me, but I could be wrong. This from a company that only fills accounting positions too. Yes, I'm in Florida.

Here's the details...

General Purpose:

The ASP Case Analyst is responsible for generating payments to vendors and resolving payment issues and discrepancies.


Primary Responsibilities / Duties:

· Uses established tools and processes to prepare payments due to vendors

· Monitors payment cycle to assure on-time payment

· Imports pay data and resolves import data errors to assure correct payment to vendors

· Analyzes and resolves payment discrepancy issues; takes ownership of escalated vendor service cases through resolution/completion

· Issuing credit/debit memos as required on vendor accounts

· Communicates with vendors, contractors, clients and our clients team members regarding vendor payments

· Runs and analyzes vendor payment reports

· Works with cash applications team to verify cash receipt from clients and application to proper invoices

· Works as a team member of the ASP team to provide high service levels to all clients and all vendors


Additional Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

· Maintain expert knowledge of our clients ASP payment and issue resolution processes

· Educating internal employees on vendor payment and issue resolution processes

· Aiding in audit preparedness

· Reconciling payment/accounting data

· Maintain knowledge and ability to research in multiple web based systems.

· Follow detailed processes and procedures.

· Exercise sound judgment in decision making.

· Willingness and ability to work overtime.

· Any other duties assigned by management

Sounds like some fancy dancy way of saying accounts payable. It does sound fairly involved with responsibility, i.e. taking over the system and running everything, versus just entering invoices and running some checks. So you better feel comfortable taking charge of it.

Personally, I can't handle working for companies that have to get so fancy about listing jobs. A "cash applications team"? Give me a break. I don't know what the ASP team means. I also can't tell from the description whether you have to have experience using any particular software, but I can't imagine any payables software being all that complicated.

Why can't they just say it's doing payables, including resolving issues, etc. and keep it short and simple. "Imports pay data and resolves import data errors to assure correct payment to vendors." Is that English? What a fancy way to say "make sure the payments are correct." Like duh. I kind of assume the company wants the payments correct. :rolleyes: I also assume I have to run reports.

This cracks me up: Additional stuff you MAY have to do includes "exercise sound judgment in decision making." If you only MAY have to do it, does that mean sometimes you don't have to exercise sound judgment? :p

Sorry -- you didn't ask for commentary, but job listings like this just leave me shaking my head. Did someone take a class in how to write these like this?

Sounds like a company that likes a lot of BS stuff, so I hope you're good at that. Or at least, the human resources department just likes to be that way. (Figures.) I'd never get through the interview cause I'm terrible at it -- if that wasn't already obvious.

At any rate, bottom line, I think it's just a silly job title.

I just caught that "a company that only fills accounting positions." Is this an employment agency? If so, that might explain a lot. They do like the BS stuff. But further warning, sometimes the agency really has no idea what the job actually is. The only thing you can do is apply and see what happens. You'd find out what's really going on at an interview with the actual company.
