    Rental security Deposit
I was just asked to move in with my b/f so I could be closer to school and I got a job closer also, so this past weekend when I moved in his landlord requested for me to pay a security deposit of $485.00 which my b/f has already paid $485.00 when he moved in, in October 07' so now landlord has $970.00 and raised the rent to $585.00.
Before all this talk about me moving in the landlord requested my b/f to begin paying the electricity which had always been included with the rent so not with the rent up $100.00 and having to pay electric this has been quite a jump.
Is all this legal for the landlord to do, we have never heard of paying 2 security deposits!

    Thank you!

Yes, in fact if you have a written rental, they would want you to fill out a new rental application and sign the rental agreement, making you liable for the rent. If your boyfriend does not have a written lease, they may change the rental amounts ( and can change it if more people move into apartment with a written lease if that lease allows for that increase)

But without a written lease, yes they can change the deal every 30 days if they want to

Thanks for the reply yes he had a written lease but we haven't seen anything new to sign with the 2 of us all he's requesting is an additional security deposit of $485.00 from me bringing the security total to $970.00 and he upped the rent to $585.00 with me moving in but says he is wants a written lease but has not yet come up with one and I've been here a week already so I don't know what to think?

Unless the old lease says he can do this, then he can't, what does the old written lease say about additional people living in the apartment ?
