I remember being really struck by the story of a young woman who wanders into a smallish town and finds work at a restaurant. She is very illusive about her past but eventually it comes out that she had a child that had died I believe it was an accident but everyone blamed her for it and that is why she left. Does anyone remember this movie and the name? I seem to recall the woman was an unknown or a relatively new actress and the diner owner was a well known actress who was sort of crusty by nature but good hearted in the end.

There is more to the plot, if I remember correctly.

The owner of the grill was looking to retire so she was running a raffle of sorts to to give the restaurant away to the winner. The raffle came to be because she could not find anyone to pay the price she needed.

The young girl was Allison Elliott. The owner of the grill was Ellen Burstyn.
