Missouri attorney withdraw from my divorce case because I went beyond the retainer fee and could not afford to give her more. --In Missouri, is there a Statue of Limitations to pay the outstanding legal fees? --After my attorney withdrew I could not afford to hire legal representation. Legal Aid said they could not assist me because I have marital property, a home I don’t live in and am not allowed to make decisions on. --I went Pro-Se, my ex got most of our marital assets because he "disappeared" the savings and cars and is renting the home to one of his family members to pay the mortgage. --All he provides is child support. --Only to give me copies of my file, I haven't heard from this attorney since she withdrew and would like to know if she can come back and sue me for the outstanding balance she says I owe. It all depends on how much you owe her and how long ago this happened. More than likely the lawyer has a heart (yes, some actually do) and she knows that trying to collect from you would probably cost her more time and money than she could collect.

Twinkiedooter, I appreciate you reply. You day it all depends on how much I owe and how long, I owe close to 9K and its been almost a year since she withdrew. I went Pro Se and the divorce has been finalized. Is there a statute of limitation in Missouri for outstanding divorce legal/attorney legal fees? I've search the internet and come up with nothing. I don't want to stir this up by calling her if she decided to let t rest and I really do not know if I owe this much. At the time I questioned her and she never got back to me. Since I did not dispute through court or filed a complaint with Bar Association when I questioned the bill, can this come to haunt me years later?

She probably has 3 years within which to sue you for it. However, if she isn't bugging you for it NOW, then she's probably not going to. Lawyers don't sit around waiting to try to collect their fees. If you haven't been sued by now, I seriously doubt you will be.
