Hi. Okay so here is my situation. I am 20 yrs old and I have a 2yr old little girl(almost 3) My husband and I are trying to have another baby but I have a problem. We started trying in Jan. and I didn't have a period in Feb. so we truly thought we were pregnant. Come to find out we weren't. They told me I have cyst on my ovaries again. So I have not had a period since Jan. I was wanting to know if you can still get pregnant if your not having a period. A nurse I saw back in Feb. said you can because you still release eggs. We really want another baby , but not having a period and not becoming pregnant is really starting to depress me. So I was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Sorry if this is confusing. Any advice is welcome. And thank you in advance.

I am sort of in the same boat as you... last period was in Jan. I've been diagnosed with high levels of prolactin. I also asked a similar question on here and was told:

"However, since ovulation occurs before a period in your cycle, you can get pregnant without a period in some instances"

Are they doing anything for you so your period returns? I am going for an MRI and hopefully will be put on meds soon after that for my period to return...

I don't have insurance so right now I am not getting meds or anything. They told me to just wait and I would eventually have a period.

You can absolutely be ovulating when your cycle is not normal.

A few things... are you taking a good prenatal vitamin? Not only does folic acid help with neural tube development if you become pregnant, but it also has been cited as helping with conception... tho' I didn't see the primary lit source and wondered if it honestly helped, or if couples taking it were just having more sex during ovulation.

As for sustaining regular periods, are you eating well, exercising, getting good sleep, good mental health, etc? Not to add on more pressure, but it doesn't take much to throw off your cycle... and while healthy living isn't a guarantee, it can help. That goes for your man too... the better he lives the better quality sperm he can have. Changes in lifestyle now can take 2-3 months to be noticed, but he should also be exercising, not smoking, avoiding pollution, getting exercise, good diet, etc. it can make a difference.

If you have long term issues with cysts, endometreosis, adhesions... a good alternative source of therapy is acupuncture. Had my wife listened to western med, after curling up in the fetal position in pain in the bathroom due to cysts and adhesions, shed have had a hysterectomy. Instead she used acupuncture and massage... and we are both trained in the sciences... chi talk sounds silly to me... but acupuncture is one of the reasons I have a son today and my wife didn't have drastic surgery. Just something to keep in the back of your mind. My understanding is acupuncture has a good overall success rate treating cysts, adhesions, endometreosis...

And remember... something like 80-85% of couples actively trying conceive in the first year, and another... don't quote me on this... something like 93-95% conceive within two. It can take time.

Hun, as a mother I'm sure you realize that this means its probably not the best time to become pregnant.

Cysts can clear up on their own, but its also possible you could need medical intervention.

Hi I haven't any true advice, just some story about me.
I was told I was infertile at the age of ten and had only 3 periods since being 13, at sixteen I found out I was pregnant. Since giving birth my fertility levels have risen and my periods have become pretty much normal.
Don't give up.

It is a general guide that if you are having regular periods you are likely to be ovulating, and if you are not having regular periods you are likely not to be, at least regularly... but, as the others have said, it is possible to ovulate without a period... (usually in some very specific incidences)... just as there is no guarantee that regular periods means definite ovulation is taking place each cycle.
Whether the cyst is the cause of your lack of periods needs to be determined... it shouldn't just be assumed to be the reason. Are you normally quite regular with your periods? When are you due back for another scan to check on the cyst? When you said you started trying in Jan. does this mean you were using birth control prior? If so, what form? For some women, it can take several cycles to get things back to normal after coming off some forms of birth control... and possibly longer after a few, such as with depo provera. Also, when you mention that you have a cyst "again", have you had them fairly often? If so, was a reason given as to the possible cause?
Certainly continue to try, but also check with your doctor about what the next steps will be to find out if you actually are ovulating and what they may suggest to try and help regulate your cycles more.

I also had cist on my ovaries and they can cause problems with having a child they can also turn melignate witch is a form of cancer but can be treated I am 22 yrs old I have 2 children and you had said you have no insurance you should be able to get a medical card on yourself if you have one on your children just go ask because you are eligible to get one because you have children all that I can tell you to do is go to the hospital ask where you can get a medical card the should point you in the right direction I hope I helped.:D

I had insurance but I don't not right now because they are switching it where my husband works so we are waiting on the new to start.So that's not a problem.

It just seems odd that your doctor is going to wait several more months before even checking on the situation, especially since you have gone so long without a period, which is out of the norm for you, and that you are trying to get pregnant.

I use to get cysts very often during my teenage years and the causes that were given were birth control pills and hormonal levels, my body was making too much of one hormone and not enough of the other and the pills that I was on made this even worse, since I have gotten my hormones under control for the most part, I have only had two cysts but not once had they ever gotten to the point that I was missing periods for several months at a time, my body did get rid of the cysts which was very painful, they ruptured and caused me to be very sick for like 2 days, my Dr regular had tests done to make sure that the cysts did indeed rupture and every time that I knew I had another cyst they did another US to check to see how big it was, they said if it was big that they would have to remove it through surgery thankful it never came down to that, but the DRs were always at concern for this situation, if I was you, I would get a second opinion to find out exactly what is going on for sure

I thought it was odd that they would want to wait so long to have me back in. They just said to wait it out and they would start back when my body was back to normal.They never told me what kind they are they just said they would clear up on their on.I had two burst back in Dec. and they said those where the size of an orange and the other of a golf ball. The new ones are only 3 cm(I think that s what they said.)No its not to personal.No issues with weight nor facial hair. I was thinking before that it might be PCOS, but the only symptom is no period.All my test came back fine. I am just so irritated with all of this. I know this my sound weird but I would rather have my period back then not have it.I believe I am going to switch doctors when the new insurance takes affect.

If I were you I would definitely switch doctors, I can't remember what size they told me was to big to pass by itself and would need surgery but for the one that's a size of an orange, I can garentee you that that is way to big and needs to be surgically removed, sorry to say it, I never had one even close to that size and my Dr watched me constantly to make sure that they wouldn't get that big to the point of needing surgery, I believe they have meds to help get rid of cysts too, def switch doctors as soon as you can and get a second opinion.

I KNOW the feeling... I say the same thing... it's very frustrating... I think that your Dr. should run some more tests - the reason for my period not returning is because of high levels of prolactin - it's worth a mention!

Thank you all for your answers. I am not sure what to do, but I am going to switch doctors and try to get on some meds, and maybe we will have another baby soon.
