Internal HD Turned External USB Unrecognizable By XP, Vista
    Short version,

My computer crashed originally 4-5 months ago, and the internal HDD was the only thing salvagable. I had it placed in an enclosure which allows for USB 2.0 and ESATA connections to be established. Was working fine until I added some files from a work computer. Now, despite the device working properly under the Device Manager, I can not access any files on my current PC running under Vista (says the device is installed and ready for use, but not displayed under my computer) or XP thus far (on the devices I've tried to assess from). Is it a possibility that the HDD driver needs to be updated, and if so where should I start looking?

    Thanks!

Confirm drive functional by installing internally.

Does drive show up in Computer Management: Disk Management console? If so, see if assigned drive letter conflicts with anything else.

Unless the enclosure came with it's own driver, no, drivers for hard disks are builtin to operating system.
