    Why am I gaining weight?
I am 60 years old, 5' 4.5". I have been dieting for a month and started at around 175 lbs. (I didn't have a scale to weigh when I first started.) I am not very active other than the normal everyday type of chores because I have breathing problems. I have ordered a Gazelle and am hoping I will be able to use that.

In any event, I have been eating practically nothing but veggies and fruits. In the past month I have had 1 chicken breast and four 3 oz. extra lean hamburger patties. I joined a site where I keep track of every single calorie I take in and it's nutritional value. My average calorie intake since I started this diet is aroun 820 calories per day, and as a rule I am well under the targets when it comes to fats, carbs, sodium, and all the rest.

On 5/29 I weighed in at 164.4. Today, 6/2, I weighed in at 165.2. I don't see how I could possibly have gained weight on what my intake is, even without exercise. According to the figures, my target for calories at my age and weight is 1675. I have averaged less than halve of daily.

Can anyone tell me what might be going wrong?

Your body has went into starvation mode and is not burning any calories at all. The extra weight you see is probably water weight.
You need to eat more, a lot more.

I've received this same answer from a couple of others on different forums so am certain you are correct. Only thing is, I have so much to lose and it's going to be hard for me to take on my calories for fear then I'll really gain. I'm going to try. Will see what happens. Thanks much for your response.
