We are about to get our transformer connected to our 320 meter panel by PUD. From the 320 we are running two lines to two 200 amp panels. We are about to pull the 40/40/20 cable through the conduit. The 2 200 amp service panels are 100 feet apart and 100 ft from the 320. We are told that we need to run a ground wire. Does the ground wire go through the conduit, or does it run from the 200 amp panel and attach to the 2 ground rods near the 200 amp panel. Can you help me with this.

WHO told you this?

Where are the panels?
Are there disconnect switches at the meter?

I have been talking with L&I and also Platt Electrical. The panels are each about 100 ft from the 320 meter box. The disconnects will be in the 200 amp panels. We have no structures on this property yet, but plan on a shop with 200 amp, and a house at the other 200 amp. Our short term plan is to provide power to an RV at each of the 2 200 amp locations, and to provide power to our well.

Some of the products look ideal for what you want to do, both short and long term.

For instance, there is a 400A meter socket with two (200 A) disconnects to do exactly what you propose. Assume a 400 A service, you then have two 200 A main breakers at the meter.

You can duplicate another 200 A disconnect as the main breaker at each of the locations.

The terminations would occur very cleanly in the meter socket box.

They also have RV power centers as well.
