My mama is driving me nuts
My mama insist on sending out graduation announcements(I don't see the point) to our extended family (ppl I never see nor hear from). She asks me to help her make copies of these announcements on card stock paper. I have never used cardstock paper(why would I I was a psych major in college we never used any kind of card stock) so I from the name of the paper I pulled what I thought was the correct kind of paper. Well when I asked her was the type of paper I pulled the kind she wanted she said yeah and went into a BIG (im talking 20 min) speech about how at my job " people will get mad at you if they ask me to get them card stock or anything and i ask them what it is" (id only ask if I honestly didn't know) now I figure if you don't know something ask right? Your boss/coworker would rather you ask them and get it right and not ask and get it wrong am I not right? How would I know what card stock paper is I have never used the stuff so what was so wrong with me asking her was the paper I pulled the correct type?In fact what is wrong with asking in general if you don't know you don't know right? Now I know what card stock is so in the future I won't have to ask.. I swear She acts as is if I can read her mind sometimes

I wonder sometimes because none of my friends have mamas like this... but I guess my question is will your boss/coworker really get angry if you ask about something you don't know anything about?

I would think if it was over something like card stock - your boss/coworker may get irritated. The best thing to do is ask a sales clerk at the paper store.

If you are asking a question that is job related - and is really something simple, a boss will think you should know. If you don't, he/she may think or get the impression that you don't know what you are doing.

Sometimes you just have to wing it.

Imtalking about if it was already at the office.. like near the copier or something... My mama knows what card sock is because she used it a lot as a TEACHER... I have never (dont plan on it I can't stand kids lol) taught at a school and have never had to use card stock at any summer job I ever had so how was I to know... but f I was sent to get some card stock I would like you suggested ask at the store. My mama just acts as if I should know everything and always acts like I never know what I'm doing and should be able to read her mind. She has always been like this and always says(even when I was 10 yr old) "your boss will be angry with you ....ect "aka in her world means "your boss will be angry with you for not reading her mind." Yesterday when I said I can't wait to move out so I can be left alone in my own place and she retorted "you have a long time b4 you get left alone at home especially when you have a husband and kids" now a husband and children are a choice(that I don't plan on having either until I'm in my mid 30s I want to live alone or a while)... who you get for a mama(and how much she nags you ) is not and on top of that if your husband is bugging you you can express that annoyance with him more freely than you can w/your mama... cannot wait to leave... I am looking at monster.com RIGHT NOW lol

I have read some of your other posts and I feel for you. I think (on some things) she, in her own way, is trying to prepare you for the future. As parents, it is hard to turn that off, no matter how old you get. Not saying it is right, but that is what I am getting from it.
