    110 or 220 volt
Is there anyway to tell from an outlet if it is a 220 line or 110?

    Dear rsrcwhite

Depends where you live... Here all outlets are 220 Volts ! :)

In the US it is not normal to have 220 Volt on standard wall outlets.

To check : buy a simple screwdriver with build-in neon light. That will show you by the strength of the light if it is 110 or 220 Volt.

Even better : for about $ 15,00 you can buy a simple "universal meter" which techs use to measure the voltage.

    Success !

DO NOT rely on a neon test light to check for 240v.

A 120v receptacle will be visibly different from a 240v receptacle. The ONLY way to be sure is to test with a meter.
