    Replacing the A-coil
I was wondering what is a reasonable cost for replacing the "A coil" on a central air conditioning unit? I don't have anything to compare it with. My central air doesn't cool my condo, so I called an A/C company and the service guy said that there is a large freon leak in my A-coil that needs to be replaced. He said that it would cost $800-1000. Plus there are in the process of seeing if my A/C unit is still under warranty but I doubt it being 6-7 years old.

    Thanks.

    Dear curious2008

Look this link. Although this refers to a unit in a mobile home, use it as a reference to understand what it does.
The price quoted seems to be rather excessive. Get a second alternative quotation !

$ 800.00 seems about right taking into consdieration the refrigerant has to be recovered, the old coil removed, the new coil adapted and installed,a liquid line filter drier installed, and the system pumped down. Then the system needs to be charged properly. Torch ,brazing alloy and other materials must be used to change the coil.
