Does anyone know if an adult child and a steparent wish to reverse an adoption and they both agree it is in the best interest of both of them can they.

Looking for help also if it is leagal to have the adoptive steparent to remove there name from the birth certificate, this is what the adult child wants very much. And the steparent.

I have never heard of it, but just wondering, would that legal action also effect any legal rights of the bio parent, since they are having to take the person back as a legal heir also now.

I haven't ever heard of it being done. As an adult you can change your name but adoptions are legally binding. You can probably find a lawyer willing to try to get it taken care of but I would bet you'd have to pay a pretty penny.

If I may ask, what is the goal of having the adoption reversed? I'm not sure that you can reverse the adoption, but there may be another way of achieving the desired end.

The adult child feels that he was to young at the time. And did not understand the whole proscess. And now does not want the steparents name on the birth records.

I'm assuming the child was a minor at the time. In that case the child really had no say in the matter.

As to not wanting the step parent name on the birth records, why would it matter?

When a step parent adopts the child(ren) they are no longer the step parent but the legal parent. The age of the child has nothing to do with it as scott pointed out. It isn't up to the child it is between the parents and a judge to do what is in the best interest. Just like no one can choose who their biological parents are. Like I said earlier as an adult you can change your name if you don't like it but your parents are your parents.

He wants his birth father' name on his birth certificate again.

As asked before, what does he think it will accomplish having the bio father listed rather than his legal father? As I said before if he can afford a lawyer he may be able to find one to work with him on it but I personally don't know of any lawyer that would take on such a case. I also don't know of a judge that would rule for that type of change. Is there a reason he wants the bio father listed? If we know the reason we might be able to help find another way to reach a similar result. If it is just because he dosen't want to be associated with his father then as an adult he can choose not to be associated with him anymore but he really dosen't have grounds for a change on the birthcirtificate or at least you haven't provided enough information for us to be able to help determine those grounds.

He feels that the decision of the adoption was a bad thing when he was young. He feels it is his right to have the man that gave him his life on his birth records this is really important to him, and I have just found an attorney that said the name could be changed with the proper paper work but not sure about reversing the adoption. He feels like his birth father has just been erased from everything and that really hurts.

As long as he realizes that changing the name on the birth cirtificate dosen't make him entitled to anything that his birth father has then there shouldn't be a problem. It's great that you found a lawyer willing to do it I still don't think that the adoption can be reversed though. Has he spoken with his bio father to see if he feels the same way? I'm not trying to imply that he has impure reasons for wanting the bio father on the because it's just that many people who ask these types of questions are after money or property or something other than just a name.
