    X sent a birthday card
My ex broke up with me 2 months ago and I was devastated. I offered her the engagement ring, I was going to give her, and never got a response. I groveled and she stole my pride and dignity - she never came back. She started seeing her new roommate. Now she sent me a birthday card. What do I do? Respond? No reply? Return to sender :D?

I don't think so, you gave it to her to do as she wished and she did. Your bad!

Throw it in the garbage, and forget it.

I say respond by saying thank you or something like that. But don't be mean to her. She was showing niceness by sending you a birthday card. The least you can do is thank her for it.

Everything she's said is true. Don't punish people for being truthful just because it hurts you or your pride.
    • She didn't want to date you any longer. True.
You offered her a parting gift engagement ring, which was probably a desparation move.
    • She recognized that and smartly didn't accept, or respond at all. Good for her. More good character for her.
    • You had a birthday and she wished you well. I am sure she meant it.

How do you respond to a birthday card? Like a grownup. Thank her politely and nothing more, or do not respond.

There is no cause to be rude, and "return to sender" is rude. Don't punish people for being honest and gentle with you just because your pride is hurt.

Just send her thank you cards very formally and nothing else. Avoiding her won't be the solution, being formal with her will break her and will make her feel ashamed of herself.

Your motives behind your actions are despicable.

    Hi ND,

I would acknowledge her birthday card by just sending a quick text or an e-mail thanking her, I don't see any harm in doing that.

Hang in there, okay? We are hear :-)
