Can a tree get lead poisoning?
I guess I'm maybe the only person who actually likes mulberry trees. I have one on the edge of my property that is turning a sickly yellow color. It has been hit in the trunk in several spots by lead buckshot or birdshot by deranged neighbor. (I purposely grow the trees a little thick on his side of the property line.) Could this shot be giving the tree lead poisoning? Also what do you think, if this tree does die on me, would it be OK to cut it down and burn it in the woodstove as firewood? Or would that be unsafe from lead fumes? I guess I could put it on a outdoor bonfire but it is a big one, seems a waste.
