New construction- wire run to ceiling light first.
Hello- I added a 1500 sq ft addition to my second story. I was told the best way to bring the electrical run, is to bring it in through the ceiling fan/light, then to the switch. Each room will have a ceiling light of some sort, and each room will have one receptacle that is switched.
All other receptacles will be hot.

How is this accomplished off one run, or do I need two runs??

Personally I would run from panel to switchbox(not ceiling box), If this is romex, run from switch box to each fan with 12 or 14-3 to allow separate light and fan control. You can run another 12 or 14-3 to the switched recepticle(s)(black is hot and red is switched.
Then use 12 or 14-2 to the remaining recepticles, daisey chain.
Run from Panel to each room Switch box. Good Luck.

First off, what is a "run"?

There is no answer to your question. It's simply how each individual prefers to wire, or has to wire depending on the situation.
