Caught shoplifting in Singapore. Need advise .
Hi there, few days ago I was caught shoplifting a $40 item in a shop. The police was called in and I was brought back to the station for investigations. I am a local (non-minor), no criminal records whatsoever, first time offender. I am currently a full-time student at a local school too.

Many things happened on that day which devastated me, angst, sadness, anger kicked in and I wasn't thinking straight and I went on a path of self-destruction and did something so stupid. I regret it so much now.

I admitted to my crime in my statement and co-operated fully, am currently on bail of SGD $2000 and to report back in 2 weeks for further investigations. Have not been summoned to court yet.

What actions should I take now? Should I talk to a lawyer before my visit to the station in 2weeks or should I wait till then?

    Please advise, thank you.

I hear their pretty tough on crime in Singapore. My advice would be to get a lawyer ASAP. Maybe you could get a doctors statement describing your mental state. You really need to seek some help so that you do not go on self destructive binges.

It sounds like you could do with seeing some one on a professional basis, you also would be very wise to seek legal help also and explain everything to them the way you have being feeling etc.

Have you thought of talking with a family friend, counselor, or religious adviser ? Someone away from everything thas going on that you can trust to be open with.

Hope everything turns out OK for you... Good luck !

Seeking legal help is never wrong, in fact they will know what to expect and how best work with the system

What happened with you finally? You have to be careful about not repeat this again. Also investigation will take time so just wait they will generally releve the person for the first crime but after full investigation and in between you should completely cooprate with them.
