    F1>5 years, switched to H1B
    Hi,

I came to USA in August 2000 on an F1 visa, and switched to H1B in Septmeber 2005. I read Atlanta Tax Expert's post about converting from F1 to H1B, but I'm not sure which of the 1040/EZ and 1040NR/EZ I need to fill out since I've been on F1>5 years and on H1B<183 days as of the end of 2005. Do I classify as a resident or non-resident alien? Also, I am a citizen of India, so can I claim the $5000 standard deduction and the additional $3200 individual exemption regardless of my residency status?

    Thanks,
    tjay

    Tjay:

You need to file as a resident alien. The exemption you had for your F-1 visa ran out at the end of 2004.

    File Form 1040EZ.
