    Could it be cancer?
Recently, I have found a kind of lump/bump behind my right ear and I am scared that it may be cancer. It is sore when you touch it but when you leave it alone.. it doesn't bother me as much but could it be cancer? What else could it be?

Please give me answers... I am only 14 years old and I am scared.

    Thank you..

I'm a nursing student and from what I have learned, if you have a lump and it is painful, it is usually not cancer. Cancerous lumps are immobile, hard, painless. It could just be a swollen lymph node. This happened to me once and I asked my doctor and she told me I probably had a small cut or pimple somewhere on my head that was infected and was causing the swollen lymph node. If it doesn't go away you should ask your doctor

This sounds like a swollen lymph node. Have you been ill recently? It could also be just a pimple.

The myth about cancer lumps not being painful is just that, a myth. Some are very painful, in fact mine was.

Now, back to your question... It's not cancer. Most likely a swollen lymph node or a pimple. I tend to lean more toward the pimple side since you said it is "behind" your ear and not below.

However, we cannot diagnose you over the internet. Have you talked to your mom about it? Have you showed her?
