Hi y'all.

I'm freaking out here a little bit.

My toilet is making a hisssssssssssssssssssssssssing noise. The noise seems to be coming from that little hose that leads from the wall to the toilet. If I put my hand around it, it muffles it. I stuck my finger in the hole where the tube comes out of the wall and into the toilet and felt around and it's not wet. I'm thinking it's some kind of pressure problem.

I'm worried because I turned it "off" (that twisty thing) and it's still hissing

A "hissing sound" usually indicates a pressure leak but since you can feel no moisture let's check a little farther.

Tell me what joint you put your hand around? After you shut off the angle stop to the tank the noise continues.
I think you have a hidden leak inside the wall. Let's check and see.
To see if you have a hidden leak check the water meter, look for the little hand below the read out. With all your fixtures shut off you should not see the little hand moving. The faster it moves the bigger the leak. On a pump system the gauge should not fall with every thing off and the pump up to pressure and not running. Let me know tom

When I put my hand around the part that comes out of the wall and into the toilet, it muffles it somewhat.

I'm going to go look at the water meter now.

It's outside in the ground with a really big oval lid. I'm not quite sure how to open it.

Hey Peg,
Make very sure nothing's running in the house. Just lift the cover and watch the indicator. It shouldn't "creep" at all. Let me know. Tom

I cannot for the life of my get the cover off that thing.

I'm going to call my parents plumber (he gives free estimates). I'm hoping it's nothing TOO big. My house is 19 years old, and about 15 or so houses in my subdivision (all roughly the same age) have had to be replumbed in the last 18 months or so. My parents just had theirs done because they had a leak under their slab.

Hi Tom

I just wanted to thank you again.

After we talked, I had to go pick up my son from school. I came back to a HUGE puddle of water in my masterbath, that was inching into my master bedroom.

I had a BIG leak under the slab. :( We are in the middle of having our house replumbed. The plumber says that quite a few people in my subdivision have had this problem in the past 3 years or so.

Thank goodness my homeowners insurance ponied up.
