    F1 Status Social Security Refund
I worked from August 2006 to August 2007 with my OPT and I paid social security during all that time. In October 2007 my status changed to H1-B and now I know I am liable to social security payment. Is there anyway I can get a refund for the social security I paid while I was working as a F1 status with my OPT?

    Thanks,
    Sergio

If you have not completed 5-years on F1/OPT in 2007, then your OPT income is not subject to FICA taxes.
    1. First you must ask your employer to refund you the FICA taxes. You can send them email. Then you will apply on Form 843 for refund of FICA taxes.
    2. Make sure that you did not file resident tax return during 2006 or 2007.
