    Child custody

I'm 6 months pregnant and due in Septmeber. When can I file for full custody of her? The father has made it clear to me that he wants nothing to do with the baby and he has changed his phone numbers, and everything. He is running scared. I'm just worried that he has something else up his sleeve. What is your advice and how should I go about doing this? I just want her to be in my care full time because he hasent cared so far and he probably never will.

Ps. Is it smart to get an attorney?

It is very smart to get an attorney. Once the baby is born, your attorney can file custody papers.

You can't do anything until the baby is born. But why let the father off the hook? You should file for custody AND child support as soon as the baby is born. You should list the father on the birth certificate.

If you need to apply for public assistance they WILL want to know who the father is and they WILL go after him for support.
