retrofit variable speed fan motor into air handler
I have separate independent heating and cooling systems: oil-fired HW baseboard heat and central air.

I presently close off the AC vents in the winter to avoid downdraft from the attic-based ducting system (whole AC distribution is in attic). I've heard that it would improve efficiency and comfort if I circulated the heat coming from the baseboard heat throughout the house using the AC fan during the winter months to avoid "packing" of the heated air.

Problem is that the fan motor on this 3.5 ton air handler blows strongly when on and I want to be able to slow it down (reduce speed and resulting draft) significantly during the winter months - so I'm looking to slow it down to a "crawl" during the winter months and let it return to full speed during the cooling months.

Is there a way to retrofit the current air handler fan motor with a control to accomplish this?

    Thanks in advance.

If you have a multi speed fan yes it can be slowed down by changing the wires around, the tag on the fan should tell you which wire go to what speed,, usually says low-med-high each color has a different speed,,
