    Filing Taxes following Bankruptcy
I filed bankruptcy in February. I got a discharge one week ago. I live with my ex-husband and up until this year, we have filed our taxes jointly as I am part owner of our business. When I filed bankruptcy, I filed as single since we are divorced. What would happen if I file my taxes jointly again this year?

    Please advise.

    Kind Regards,

If you are divorced you can not file married this year, unless you marry him again. What you are on the last day of the year (dec 31) is normally used to determine if you are married or not married.

As for as bankruptcy, there is not a cross reference between records of IRS and bankruptcy court. But it does provide the IRS proof you are dong fraud on your taxes if it gets reported.
