Hunter Fan Installation Where there are 2 wall switches
I'm replacing an old ceiling fan with a Hunter fan and light. The fixture is positioned between wall switches on opposite walls and has two incoming black and white wires. The old fans I used in this room had a black wire, a white wire and a ground and all like colored wires were simply wired together to work from either switch. But the Hunter has an additional black wire with a white stripe and putting them all together doesn't work. I've tried several arrangements but can't get the fan and the lights to work properly. How should the black wires be placed to get the appropriate result?

You connect the striped wire to the same ceiling lead as the black wire from the fan. Then the fan and light are controlled together.

What make/model was the old fan?

Hi, Thanks for answering. I don't remember the make of the old fan. I guess my biggest problem is there are 3 white wires and 3 black wires coming from the ceiling. I don't know which is the main incoming power, which, I assume the wires from the fan must be attached to.

All white and all black wires together I think. Yesterday I wired the black wire and striped wire from the fan to the hot black wire from the ceiling and then wired the other pair together. I wired the white wire from the fan and one white wire from the ceiling together, then the other two white wires together. It got me use of the fan and lights but appears to have cut the wall switches from the circuit. The pull strings still work. Less convenient, but it works. Don't know how to get the switches into the circuit without losing everything. I had tried wiring all white and all black plus stripe together but that just blew the breaker.

How many switches controlled the old fan?
