I pulled out old tub and need to replace with new. The tub is 60" and the opening is 60 1/2". Is this possible? I have been trying and can't get it done. Do I need to open wall and slide in?

Hey Kevin:

The trick to this is first... NOT to attach the tub waste and overflow... ok?

Then you want to stand the tub up in the space you plan to install it in... THEN (and here is the trick) need to pull the unit FORWARD so when you and a friend tilt this in place the front APRON of the tub does not hit the studs in the wall!

Two people lower the tub... basically guy one lowers his end while guy two lifts his end and then, if no studs in the way of the apron, it will just drop in place.

Sometimes you need to remove the brace wood between studs so you have a place to put your hands when lowering.

This is something I do every week of my life... NEVER had to cut a wall or anything like that.

Unit just drops in as stated... just be careful of fingers... ;)

If this is cast iron tub, don't forget you need a LEDGER strip on the side wall!

First, what type of tub are you installing? Cast iron? Plastic? Fiberglass?
What's the problem? You have a whole quarter inch to play with on either end. LOL! You had to take out some dry wall to remove the tub. Woulde you like to tell us what you removed along with the tub? You do realize that the drywall must fit over the tub lip don't you? If the drywall will be higher then the tub lip and I can move it by pushing it, (a plastic or fiberglass tub) I simply line it up and set on the floor and shove it in with my feet. If it's a cast iron tub and too heavy to push in place I take out the back drywall and tile and walk the tub in and stand it up next to the front wall. From there I just start to lower the tub down while pulling the front of the tub toward the front wall. At some point the tub just drops into position.
