    Wiring a basement
    I am trying to finish my basement and was thinking of doing some of the wireing myself then bring in a electricion. In the living room I plan to have six plug in's. Also there will be a large walk in closet in that room with a plug in. then in the next room I plan to have two plug in's not counting the ones along the counter, there I like to have three or four.
    Question is can I connect each plug into each other? If so is there a limit? For example can can all six plugins and the closet plug in be daisy chain together? Then to one circuit?
    Same for the lights in the ceiling I thinking of putting in can lights. How many can be daisy chain together?
    Sorry for not knowing all the correct terms, I am new at all of this.
    I have done some small projects with wiring or adding a plugin, but that is my limit.

    Yes! Before you begin answer my questions above

    It depends on the size of the circuit. If 15A circuit, then you can install up to 1800 watts in residential. If a 20A circuit, then you can install up to 2400 watts in residential. Base your calculation on the highest wattage your can light can take. If the highest is 100 watts, and the lowest is 40 watts. You would use 100 watts to figure your calculation.

    So if you plan to install an individual 15A circuit for recess cans (Non-flo's) that will accept up to 100 watts each. Then you are allowed to install 18 can lights on your 15A circuit.

    Washington1 you had two questions:
    Two questions:
    1. What is the next room
    2. Where are these counters

    The basement is laid out as at the foot of the stairs is a living room which leads into a longer room which will be used as game room / kitchen area. In the Kitchen area will be the counters and sink.
    The next room will be a full bathroom.

    The kitchen and bath will need there own 20 amp receptacle circuits.
    The kitchen: Receptacles installed in a kitchen to serve countertop surfaces shall be supplied by not fewer than two small-appliance branch circuits, either or both of which shall also be permitted to supply receptacle outlets in the same kitchen and in other rooms specified in 210.52(B)(1). A receptacle outlet shall be installed at each wall counter space that is 300 mm (12 in.) or wider. Receptacle outlets shall be installed so that no point along the wall line is more than 600 mm (24 in.) measured horizontally from a receptacle outlet in that space. Receptacle outlets shall not be required on a wall directly behind a range or sink. No small-appliance branch circuit shall serve more than one kitchen.

    The bath:In dwelling units, at least one receptacle outlet shall be installed in bathrooms within 900 mm (3 ft) of the outside edge of each basin. The receptacle outlet shall be located on a wall or partition that is adjacent to the basin or basin countertop. The receptacle shall not be required to be mounted in the wall or partition where it is installed on the side or face of the basin cabinet not more than 300 mm (12 in.) below the countertop.


    Note: GFCI Protection: Each 125-volt, single-phase, 15- or 20-ampere receptacle shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel in the following locations: Kitchen counter top surfaces, and bathroom receptacle outlets

    Also note that there are code rules for spacing of receptacle outlets in each room.
